After tasting the potential glory of whitewater SUP in April, I finally heeded the rivers' call and headed back for another session.
The crew – Kelly and Gustavo, two colleagues from the shop who prefer the kayak, and Matt P, SUP guru extraordinaire. Good crew.
We ran Coloma to Greenwood, a.k.a. "C to G." It's the beginner stretch on the South Fork of the American River, featuring solid class I & II rapids. It also features a fun standing wave called "Barking dog," which I couldn't quite surf but will surely shred on my next attempt.
Long story short, we had a blast. As usual, Matt makes it look easy and I picked up on some ferrying and "eddy out" techniques from him. My goal is to run the stretch a few more times, then step it up to class III and run "the Gorge" with Matt by the end of summer.
